SEMINAR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ASTRONOMY

Discovery of two new E-CH3OH transitions in the J_-1->(J-1)_0-E family series

a talk by Pedro Kurmi Humire Rodríguez (IAG-USP) - In-Person

Abstract:

We detected the 7_−1→6_0−E and 10_−1→9_0−E methanol transitions in 6 out of 19 sources. Among them, we firmly determined the 10−1→9_0−E maser nature in CARMA 7, L1641N, NGC 2024, and Serpens FIRS, and we show evidence for the presence of inverted population emission in the 7_−1→6_0−E line toward CARMA 7 and L1641N. This represents the first report of methanol maser emission in these particular transitions. Our study supports previous works indicating that conditions for Class I methanol maser emission are satisfied in low-mass star-forming regions and expands the range of detectable frequencies toward higher values.

Short-Bio:

I was born in Arica, Chile. In 2011 I started studying astronomy at the University of Concepción. After finishing my Master of Science in Physics in the same house of studies, I pursued a Ph.D. in astrophysics at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR) in Bonn, Germany. Currently, I am pursuing a post-doc at IAG, USP, Brazil.
